Exercise is crucial to your rehab!

Gym based rehabilitation:

We have access to gym equipment at Pro-active Gym to show you the correct technique and form when completing your exercises. If you are already in the gym training as part of your normal routine then we can adjust and modify your exercises so you can continue to exercise if with an injury. We understand that it is importance to continue to train when you have an injury. Think of it is as relative rest when you have an injury. The only bit that rests is the part that was injured.

We can also guide you on what to do in the gym if you want to start a regular gym programme to get the most out of your rehab. At our Proactive Gym site we have an extensive amount of gym equipment available to us that can be accessed during your treatment. Proactive has a boxing gym, RPM cycling room, full weights and cardio area and aerobics studios. We work closely with the wonderful trainers at Proactive gym to get you back on track when required.

Pilates

Pilates is another form of exercise that is used as part of your physio treatments. Pilates blends well with Physio as it incorporates breathing, muscle control, awareness, stretching, strengthening and so much more. Because Pilates is such a controlled form of exercise and you probably haven’t done something like it before supervision is required when you start especially when you have an injury. It is like learning to move again. You will notice changes in your body when you did it regularly such as better posture, increased flexibility, less pain, increased muscle tone and better breathing to name a few. At our Gordon Road clinic we have full access to the Core Strength Pilates Studio allowing you the option of doing one on one sessions as part of your rehab and progressing onto either mat or studio classes if required.

Home Exercise Program

Everyone will be given a home exercise programme so they take some control over pain. We are there to help guide you and educate you on which ones to do. We will not give you thousands of exercises that you won’t ever do. We will however teach you to do them right. If that means practice makes perfect then we will practice. We also understand that people learn in different ways so we need to target your programme and how we teach you to your individual learning needs. And we will ask you if you have done them.

Hands on Treatment

Don’t worry just because we want you to do your exercises doesn’t mean that is all we are about. All our therapists have done further training in manual therapy and we are very hands on during our treatments. We understand that as part of your injury muscles and tissues will tighten. This can generate pain secondary to the injury and limit your recovery. We will analyse as part of our assessment what is the right treatment for you, discuss the options and make sure you are comfortable to go ahead.
