History of Central Lakes Physio

Central Lakes Physiotherapy was founded by Emma Kingan in 2007 with aspirations to be the leading sports and spinal physiotherapy clinic in Central Otago. Emma has been lucky enough to grow and attract exceptional physio's to work as part of the newly expanded clinic. Catherine Lyness joined the team at the start of 2008 with our friendly Scottish lass Vicky Hill coming on board in April 2009 for the winter rush. Allison Aspinall then moved up from Invercargill in June 2010 to complete the team. Of course there are always plans for more talented and inquisitive physio's to join long term as Wanaka is a growing area.

Initially based in the centre of town, Central Lakes Physio expanded to their current spacious premises on Gordon Road in June 2008. Due to the popular demand of our services and the opportunity to work with the amazing team at Proactive Gym, in April 2009 Central Lakes Physio expanded once again to include a satellite clinic based at the Proactive Gym on Plantation Road, Wanaka.

We are fortunate to have a wide range of clients from builders (those hard working blokes with dodgy builders backs), to extreme (often crazy) mountain bike enthusiasts, to top (extremely talented) athletes, mums (the multi-tasking goddesses of the world) and so much more. This variety means we look at every body as individuals and think outside the square to problem solve where the link in the chain got broken.

We have been fortunate enough to work with multiple local sports teams and groups including the High Performance Cardrona (HPC) ski team, TC Race Academy as well as local touch, hockey, swimming, cricket and netball squads.

As well as having a sports injury focus, a major focus of our business is injury prevention in the community. That is why we work with local big companies, such as New World, to offer manual handling education and talks to staff. We work closely with both the employer and employee to get people back into the workforce following an injury.

We love Wanaka and are keen to educate this special community on how they can get the most out of life and avoid coming to see us. However, if they need treatment then we will give them a high quality, effective service. We have done local talks to the Wanaka Swim club, Wanaka Golf club, Probus club and many more. We are happy to talk with any local community groups to see how we can help out. We also support local charity. In February 2009 we put a team together for the first ever relay for life to raise money for the cancer society. Our combined effort got us to our $3000 target.

About Wanaka

Wanaka has the best of both worlds with magnificent ski resorts on our back door step in winter and the stunning lake Wanaka for boating, fishing and swimming in the summer. These great attractions make Wanaka a mecca for those crazy adrenalin junkies that love to break bones, sprain joints and bruise muscles. We also have a very active community with all age ranges participating in local teams and sport events.
